Pastor’s Corner Black History (Lack of)
&
(The Miseducation of the American People!)
Ignorance is the lack of knowledge: uninformed, unenlightened, untaught, uneducated!
Carter G. Woodson (December 19, 1875 – April 3, 1950), renowned educator, courageously fought for and achieved acknowledgement of Colored/Afro Americans/African Americans/Blacks contributions to this country through establishment of Negro History Week in 1926 during the month of February. Dr. Woodson chose February because it is the birth month of Abraham Lincoln and Frederic Douglas. Fifty years later in 1976, Negro History Week became Black History Month. Throughout his career, Dr. Woodson extensively wrote on achievements of our people, unfortunately, these books were only required reading in the segregated schools existing at that time. Even today, the achievements of African Americans are not mainstreamed throughout the educational process. It is not incorporated in “true time” as it occurred. If people do not “choose” to become enlightened and “fully educated”, achievements of our people remain “hidden figures” in the shadows of history and ignorance among certain groups prevails!
Is it possible that the USA is in its current state of division because of the miseducation of its citizens? Could our current plight, in some part, be due to the lack of True Complete History? (Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: Matthew 12:25)
True history would have told the story of this country from its inception to present day as it actually happened “in time”, without “hiding contributions” of those native to this country, those forced to these shores through capture and slavery as well as those who were afforded the opportunity to come (because of their lack of pigmentation) through Ellis Island. A great number of this country’s constituency are ignorant of the horrible conditions of everyday life African Americans have endured, and have withstood inferior education and housing and relegation to the dregs of the American Pie! True History would have told the true story and these unhinged people would know that they have no right to claim this country as only their own. True History would’ve educated all of the accomplishments of all Americans of which African Americans contributed greatly.
English philosopher Alfred North Whitehead (1861-1947) said: “Not ignorance, but ignorance of ignorance, is the death of knowledge”.
Woe to you who stand in the pulpit and encourage ungodly acts: Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 7:21-23 –
Woe to you who do not seek the Word of God for yourselves but rely on what “thus sayeth a leader”: They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. Ephesians 4:18
We must all be aware and know we will all be held accountable for what we do and do not do. Ignorance is no excuse. Need clarification of right and wrong –read the Word.
“ my people perish for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6.
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. Revelation 1:3
Pray that this country will not only have “One Nation Under God” imprinted on its money, but also in our hearts!
Victory,
